DR. NATHAN HANSEN TO HEAD DEPT. OF HEALTH PROMOTION AND BEHAVIOR AT UNIVERSITY OF GEORGIA
Nathan Hansen, Ph.D., former Associate Professor of Psychiatry at the Yale School of Medicine, former Director of HIV Prevention and Mental Health Research at The Consultation Center, and former Director of CIRA's Development Core, ends his tenure at Yale on June 30, 2013. Dr. Hansen is moving to the University of Georgia where he will be an Associate Professor of Public Health and Head of the Department of Health Promotion and Behavior.

YALE-BRIDGEPORT GEAR UP ALUMNA IS SELECTED TO PARTICIPATE IN NATIONAL LEADERSHIP ACADEMY
Bridgeport resident Maysoun Chawiche, a graduate of that city's Central High School, has been chosen to participate in the inaugural GEAR UP Alumni Leadership Academy. Nadia Ward, PhD, Director of Urban Education and Assistant Professor of Psychiatry, is the local GEAR UP Project Director. The Robert Wood Johnson Foundation (RWJF), the nation's leading philanthropy on health and health care, has awarded Cindy A. Crusto, PhD, associate professor of psychiatry at Yale University School of Medicine a grant through the New Connections program. Read more....


At its annual Community Awards Celebration on APRIL 29, 2013, The Consultation Center presented awards for individual and organizational excellence for efforts consistent with promoting the Center's mission: to promote health, wellness, and positive social change, and to prevent individual and social problems and inequities. This represented the first time that the award for organizational excellence was given.

The 2013 award for Individual Excellence was presented to Ms. Barbara Bellucci, Family Violence Victim Advocate Supervisor, Center for Domestic Violence Services, BH Care. Ms. Bellucci was presented with her award by Dr. Tami Sullivan, Director of Family Violence Research and Programs at the Center, in recognition of her dedication to ending domestic violence and improving the wellbeing of victims and their families. Upon accepting the award, Ms. Bellucci thanked her many colleagues for their support and their dedication to ending domestic violence in New Haven and throughout Connecticut.

The Consultation Center also presented its inaugural 2013 award for Organizational Excellence to The Connecticut Mental Health Center and its Director, Dr. Michael Sernyak. Dr. Sernyak was presented with the award by Dr. Jacob Tebes, Director of The Consultation Center, in recognition of his vision and leadership of the Connecticut Mental Health Center to promote health and wellness for mental health consumers, their families, staff and trainees, and the broader New Haven community.
